    The Rogue Media !

Just one day before the assassination of Benazir Bhutto, i was watching a talk-show on a channel. The anchors of the show were agreed that by making the deal with government, Benazir has really destroyed the name of her father Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. They were saying that Z.A.Bhutto accepted to be hanged, but didnt shake hands with a dictator. The anchors were also criticizing the N.R.O. (National Reconciliation Ordinance) by government, in which Benazir along-with hundreds of politicians/political-workers were pardoned in dozens of cases filed against her by Nawaz Sharif in last decade. Before the assassination of Benazir, almost all channels were telecasting talk-shows like these, criticizing Benazir & government, reminding the nation about Surrey Palace, corruption, looting & plundering of Benazir & PPP. Her two statements about A.Q.Khan & welcoming U.S. Forces on Pakistani soil against Al-Qaeda were also severely condemned.

But now, after her assassination, when i watch talk-shows on the same media, i feel a 180 degree change in their views/policy. Now the media portray her as if she was the only hope for country, as if she was the only savior of Pakistan, as if she was doing politics on principles, and as if she was the only greatest leader Pakistanis had ever seen. The media out-rightly forgot the corruption & Surrey Palace of Benazir. Nobody discusses now her statements about A.Q.Khan & U.S. Forces.

    What is this ?
Is this the standard of media ?
Is there any determination in the views ?
Are the views of so-called analysts on media volatile to such an extent ... ?
What actually are these channels trying to convey to the people of this country ?

But there is one similarity in the diversity of views/policy of channels, and that is the propaganda campaign against government. When this media was criticizing B.B. before assassination, it was actually criticizing the government because she showed her inclination towards government. And now when they are praising her too much, they are actually blaming the government for whatever happened.

Things are no more hidden. It is reported that these channels are getting heavy funds from foreign powers, and also from some of the national political parties.

Apart from politics, what stuff these channels are telecasting in the name of entertainment ? All channels, whether its ARY or AAJ or TV One or Geo or Indus .. all, regularly telecast cheap and below-standard Indian dramas/productions. I am unable to understand that why our channels telecast IIFA awards or Zee Awards ? What we have to do with these awards ?
Why our channels are telecasting Indian productions ? The answer is, they get large amounts from Indian producers for telecasting their productions in Pakistan.

And along-with telecasting pure Indian products, each channel is also copying the Indian way of making dramas. Copying Indian culture, Indian dresses, Indian way of talking, Indian drama techniques (Thish, Thish, Thish ..) and even title-songs are also copies. These are not actually the 'dramas', these are actually a package of cheap glamour, sub-standard stories based on weak plots, plus the acting of low artistic skills.

Is this the way we used to make our dramas ? Where are the dramas like waris, sona chandi, tanhaaiyaaN and dhoop kinaary ? There was a time when Pakistani dramas were copied by Indians. And now such a time has come that our channels are copying their way.

Just for making money, are these channels not spoiling our young generation by following the foreign culture ?
Are these channels really working for Pakistani cause ?
Or executing any foreign agenda ?
    Is this the patriotism ?

This media is becoming a rogue.

    Vacuum

It was around 6:15 p.m. As usual I was at my work place that evening, and was trying to wind-up things to leave the office in next 60 to 90 minutes. All colleagues were also busy in their work. My frend Umer sent me a message through messenger, "Benazir died". I thought he is joking. "But there should be a limit of being funny, what kind of joke is this ?", thinking this i replied very harshly, "kia bakwas ker raha hai ?". He said, "seriously, i m watching tv ...". Without wasting anymore time i opened the web-sites of BBC & CNN. Both web-sites were showing the headline news at homepages that Benazir Bhutto is badly injured.

I noticed some un-usual activities in the office. Nobody was on chair, all were moving. Some tuned FM on mobiles, others were watching online bulletins. "Died, gone, fired, suicide attack, ... ", and there were lots of voices striking with my ears. Everyone was shutting the PC down, picking up the keys of vehicles, helmets, bags, lunch-boxes and moving outside.

Then i realized that something has really happened, i should move now. It was
6:23 p.m. when i was marking time-out. Just few minutes ago everything was normal, and within 5 to 10 minutes the office was empty.

After few hours i was thinking that despite the fact that how harmful she was for
Pakistan, at-least she was a big hurdle for the anti-Pakistan elements in Sindh, like Palejo and Qadir Magsi. The history of PPP is full with corruption, bad politics and other criminal acts, but one good thing about PPP is, it is blocking the way of anti-Pakistan elements (nationalists) in Sindh. Benazir Bhutto was the symbol of unity for PPP. After her death, chances are there that PPP could split. If PPP would divide into little parties, the anti-Pakistan elements may find space to grow.

May her soul rest in peace.
